Construction of tiny reactor prototype

This inner circuit is the regulator circuit that also keeps the reaction going. The outer coil inductively couples to the plasma turn and loads it depending on the external load on the winding. The outer winding is about 3000T on a former around the inner circuit. It should have a maximum power of >60KW.

I put a 6 mm copper tube between the reactor tube and the 18" vacuum pump so the lightning generator may be connected to the gas.
the other end is similar except that I have a stop valve connected. I used air in this test.

I tried this but I was unable to make the gas conduct. I found I could get the pressure down to 20Tor 
after getting some instruction on reading the gauge.
This is with 4 pumps in series. I have enquired about getting a better pump. I have been told I need 0.5Tor. 
Pumps like that are expensive.
One pump got me 600 Tor.

I bought another stage to my vacuum pump making four and the pressure dropped to between 10 and 20 Tor. I used the plasma generator and found the pink glow of air immediately appeared in the tube. I used a copper pipe to join cut ends of vacuum tubing to form the electrodes.

I achieved plasma with 4 of the little units I got from think it make it in series I hope to buy another one tomorrow, it is only £11. I found the gauge read between 10 and 20 Tor.

 

I used an RF plasma generator I bought from the “amazing” company in the USA.

 

The current taken by the outer coil before the plasma formed was 800 mA and that dropped to 170mA when the plasma struck

I used copper tubes as the electrodes inserted between cut ends of vacuum tubing.

 

Hi,

 

First test run of tiny thermonuclear fusion reactor 25/10/2013. It operates at 50 Hz and extracts power by direct conversion. I felt very hot during each run. The neutron detector showed bursts of increased activity during the time of peak current in the cycle.

There is no shielding.

I put it in the outer coil. I used a 12 volt mains transformer.

 

The current in the exciter dropped from 800 mA to 170Ma when plasma was achieved and the inner winding took 170 mA also this implies that the outer coil was taking less current so something stopped it. If the current was 800 mA and dropped to 100 mA then a back emf had occurred  possibly generated by the plasma. Possibly I should use a single pulse to start it.

 

It got very hot.

The coil current of 170 mA indicates that 170 amp flowed in the plasma.  Very little power was developed because the abundance of deuterium in the air is low.

 

It got quite hot around me.

Later I found the the electrolytic capacitors had gone short circuit to DC and the pulsations ceased. I worked out that they had failed because of the RF component. I will put a ferrite ring to stop RF getting into the circuits, both on the inner winding and the outer winding.

The reactor does work.

I wound another inner coil and after running it using the higher power plasma generator the inner coil failed. This before I realized that the capacitors had failed.

The new inner coil failed because it had over heated. The plastic had fused to the borosilicate glass and the winding was open circuit.

The capacitors are working correctly now. I need to wind another inner coil.

I looked again at the pressure gauge and the pressure is 40 Tor.

The plasma gets brighter as the reaction proceeds. I think that is due to reaction products accumulation. When running without the inner coil

this effect is not apparent.

My pressure gauge has just broken. It fell about 20 mm in to the bench when reading 40 Tor.
